The Central Midlands Local Office developed commissioning intentions based on the Oral Health Needs Assessment and Commissioning Strategy recommendations to improve access to NHS dental services in priority areas.
The Local Office has completed a procurement process to commission new service arrangements for Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.
Please find below a further update on the establishment of new general dental services in Leicestershire County and Rutland:
General Dental Services (Routine and Urgent Care)
On 1 December 2017, the urgent dental care services arrangements for Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland were replaced with new General Dental Services practices providing urgent and routine dental care. The new dental practices are delivering services between 8am to 8pm, 365 days a year and will provide access to urgent and routine dental care services.
In addition to the two Leicester City practices which opened on 1 December 2017, the Melton Mowbray and Oakham dental practices will commence delivering services from 12 January 2018.

The new 8 to 8 General Dental Services practices will provide routine and urgent dental care services.
The practices will provide urgent dental care to anyone living in or visiting Leicester, Leicestershire or Rutland with an urgent dental need, if they do not have a regular dentist or if their regular dental practice is closed.
The new service can be contacted on Freephone 03300 417 062 between 8am and 8pm, seven days a week, or NHS 111 outside of these hours.
A fifth new 8 to 8 NHS dental practice in Loughborough is schedule to open at the end of January 2018. The new practice opening has been delayed due to unforeseen planning issues encountered during the mobilisation period.
